Repairing broken, damaged, or malfunctioning car parts isn’t cheap. According to a 2008 report by Express.co.uk, the average car owner in the UK spends about £400 a year in car repairs. In some cases, car owners can be spared the pain of replacing their Audi parts by simply taking care of the car and performing monthly maintenance. Other repairs are simply a necessary evil that comes with owning a car.

Using a recent report from CarMD, we have assembled the most common car part repairs and replacements that many individuals throughout both the UK and the world face each year.

The Most Common Car Repairs

  1. After Market Alarms- When car owners decide to instal alarms or other devices on their own after purchasing a new car, they often tap into various electric circuits in the car to power these devices. Unfortunately, this often takes power away from other car parts, resulting in system failures and malfunctions.
  2. Intake Manifold Gaskets- These Audi parts, which are responsible for preventing air from leaking and mixing with fuel in the engine may need to be replaced when malfunctioning. If they are not replaced, they can affect the car’s engine performance, emissions, and fuel economy.
  3. Ignition Coils- Ignition coils are vital car parts because they tell the spark plugs when they need to do their job. Ignoring them when they malfunction often results in problems with the ignition system of the car.
  4. Temperature Sensor- This car part is responsible for sensing and identifying the temperature of the engine coolant system.
  5. Gas Recirculation Valve- This Audi part is an essential part of a car’s emission system. When it isn’t working properly, it is not able to re-circulate part of the car’s exhaust throughout the engine, affecting the performance of the vehicle.
  6. Spark Plugs- While these Audi parts are small, they can cause big problems when not taken care of quickly, including reducing fuel mileage and melting the catalytic converter. They aren’t expensive to replace, but the cost for the damage done when they are ignored can be astounding.
  7. Mass Air Flow Sensor- This part is responsible for measuring the quantity of air that is provided to the engine and determining the amount of fuel the engine receives. Problems with this part are often caused by lack of preventative maintenance.
  8. Catalytic Converter- This is no doubt the costliest repair, and one of the most common. This car part is responsible for the Audi’s emission system, and will only fail when other car parts, like the fuel injector or spark plugs, are damaged and ignored for too long a period of time.
  9. Fuel Caps- While the fuel cap is no longer one of the most obvious reasons for a flashing check engine light, it can still be the cause in some cases. Loose or missing fuel caps must be replaced immediately. They can lower fuel mileage by 0.5% when ignored.

10.  Oxygen Sensor- One of the most common car part replacement is the oxygen sensor, which is responsible for monitoring unburned oxygen in a car’s exhaust. While many car owners can fix this problem themselves if they have an older model, newer models generally require special tools for reaching and replacing the sensor.

Repairing and replacing car parts is an expensive, but necessary, part of life. Make sure you understand what types of repairs are most common, so you, and your wallet, can be prepared for the unexpected.
