If you’re looking for a comfortable, luxurious vehicle that will suit your entire family, choosing a Land Rover is one of the best choices you can make. But where do you go from there? There are several models offered by this car manufacturer, each with their own benefits and weaknesses.
Take the Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery 4 for instance. These SUVs are stunning, stylish, and fun to drive, so how do you choose between them? Let’s take a look at what each of them offers compared to the other.
The winner is: the Evoque. The Discovery 4 only averages 35mpg and costs £620 in road tax for the first year, £280 in road tax every year after that, while the Evoque can provide 50mpg and only costs £140 in road tax each year, including the first. Because the car you’re choosing is for family driving, choosing the Evoque will save you money that you can put toward other expenses, like little Susie’s braces or that family vacation you’ve been planning to take.
The winner is: the Discovery 4. While the Discovery 4 may get few miles per gallon, one tank of diesel can offer 636 miles of fun and excitement. It also offers more power, more torque, and a greater engine size. The gearbox is automatic, but has a manual mode that can be utilised, while the Evoque is manual only.
The winner is: a tie. Both the Evoque and the Discovery offer a number of features that help them stand out from the crowd, the most significant being their price. Both are less than £40,000, although the Evoque is about £8,000 cheaper than the Discovery.
If space is a concern, and it probably is, you can’t go wrong with either one of these vehicles. With the seats up, the Evoque offers the most boot space at 420 litres, perfect for carrying groceries and luggage for family trips. If you need to haul larger items, though, the Discovery is your best option. With the seats folded down, the boot space increases from 172 litres to 2558 litres.
Both sports utility vehicles offer plenty of space for passengers, but the Discovery provides two additional seats that may be helpful if you have a large family or are planning on growing your family.
The winner is: the Evoque. Larger cars are always much more expensive to run, but when it comes to the Range Rover Evoque, you can feel confident that you won’t be spending all of the extra money you save from a cheaper road tax on replacement car parts. There will, of course, be certain Land Rover parts and maintenance costs, as with any car you might buy.
The winner is: the Evoque. Safety tests performed by Euro NCAP place the Evoque squarely in the winner’s circle in this category, with a five-star rating compared to the Discovery’s four-star rating. Much of this has to do with the additional options and car parts it provides, like lane departure warning systems, surround camera systems, and road-sign recognising cameras.
Thinking of choosing between the Evoque and Discovery? Use this comparison and your own research to find the best car for your family.
