Wiper Blades

How long do car wiper blades last?

-

Most wiper blades last around 6–12 months, but this can vary depending on weather conditions and how often you drive. Sun exposure, dirt, and extreme cold or heat can cause the rubber to harden or crack. If you notice smearing, streaking, squeaking or juddering, it’s usually a sign that the blades need replacing.

How often should you replace your car wiper blades?

+

You should ideally replace wiper blades once a year, or sooner if you spot signs of wear. Streaking, juddering, or missed patches on the windscreen indicate the rubber is no longer making proper contact. Regular checks help maintain safe visibility in all weather.

How do you remove wiper blades?

+

To remove wiper blades, lift the wiper arm away from the windscreen until it locks in place. Press the release tab or button on the blade, then slide it off the hook or pin fitting. Different vehicles may have slightly different mechanisms, so checking your car’s manual is always helpful.

Newer cars may need to be put into a ‘Service’ or ‘Maintenance’ Mode which allows you to move the wipers to replace them, check your vehicle handbook for how to do this.

How do you stop wiper blades from squeaking?

+

Start by cleaning both the windscreen and the blades with glass cleaner to remove dirt and residue-this often resolves the issue. If the squeaking continues, it usually means the rubber has worn out or hardened and the blades need replacing.
