If you’re like most Renault owners, you’re intuitively aware of how your car feels and sounds on a normal day. You drive it all the time, so, when it begins acting different, even slightly, you know something is wrong and needs to fixed immediately. The problem is, knowing something is wrong and knowing what Renault parts are to blame are two different things.

Some problems may be more serious than others, and if something is wrong with your engine, it definitely means you should be taking your car to the mechanic for a check-up. Not sure if a strange noise or quirk could indicate an engine issue? Let’s take a look at five problems that may help you identify a serious problem with your Renault’s engine.

Signs That Indicate Engine Issues

  • Guzzling Petrol- Have you noticed lately that your Renault  seems to be guzzling petrol like it’s going out of style? If your fuel mileage has suddenly decreased, no matter how dramatically, it’s time for an expert’s advice. It could be caused by bad spark plugs or wires, bad fuel injectors, or even clogged air filters.

  • Knocking Sounds- Many different car parts can cause knocking sound beneath the bonnet when they are in need of repair, but when the knocking sound occurs specifically when you accelerate, it could be an engine issue. The issue could be as simple as having gotten some bad fuel, or it could be as serious as detonations in the Renault’s engine. Visit a mechanic to rule out the latter, which can cause irreparable damage.

  • Trouble Starting- When your car is having trouble starting, there are several Renault parts that can be looked at before you even consider a problem with the engine. If it turns over, but won’t start, you can rule out the battery. If it starts, even roughly, you can rule out the alternator and starter. If it turns over, but simply refuses to start, the problem could be the distributor, fuel pump, or spark plugs.

  • Rough Running- Have you noticed lately that your car keeps stalling, backfiring, or simply runs roughly? Most of the time, these symptoms indicate simple problems. However, they can be caused by engine failure or problems that can cause permanent engine damage. To be safe, always take the Renault to a reputable mechanic to rule out the worst-case scenario first.

  • Foul Smelling Exhaust- Exhaust from your car normally doesn’t have a pleasant scent, but when that scent becomes even more foul or different, it could indicate a number of problems with car parts, like antifreeze leaking into the heating core, a plugged converter, or you fuel injector may be sending too much fuel through the car’s engine, resulting in excess fuel that isn’t burned off.

Have you noticed that your car is behaving, smelling, or sounding different lately? Don’t ignore the signs; your car could be telling you that certain Renault parts need replacing or fixing. Use these tips to understand when you need to see a professional to protect your engine from failing completely.
