No one likes to think there may be something wrong with their car, especially if it’s new. The truth is, however, no car is perfect. Even if you purchase a brand new model, there’s a good chance something, somewhere will go wrong. There may even be specific problems related to that type of car.

No one likes to think there may be something wrong with their car, especially if it’s new. The truth is, however, no car is perfect. Even if you purchase a brand new model, there’s a good chance something, somewhere will go wrong. There may even be specific problems related to that type of car.

That is the case with the Mazda Mx5. Beneath its roadster appeal and its whimsical upgrades, this vehicle still has some disadvantages that are hard to overlook. What disadvantages should you know about? Let’s take a look.

Mx5 Parts: Faults to Look for

  • Brake Callipers- One of the most common faulty car parts on this Mazda are the brake callipers, which have been known to seize on. Most often, replacement parts are necessary, although prevention may be an option if you pay attention to the rears, which are a rather weak point, and clean them often.

  • Electric Windows- Older models of the Mx5 often have issues with the electric windows becoming stuck and slowing down. If yours are still going up and down, but slowly, you’ll need to douse the runners with white lithium grease or silicone spray. If they are stuck, it’s typically because a broken clip, which hold the cable in the window. A professional will need to repair these car parts.

  • Oil Leaks- Have you noticed that your Mazda has begun to leak oil? Unfortunately, you may not notice this problem until it is too late, especially if the CAS sensor breaks and begins to leak on the feed pipes for the coolant. The only warning you’ll have is the eventuality of burst pipes. If caught early, fixing this problem is as easy as replacing the broken sensor. It becomes much more complicated, however, if the coolant feed pipes burst.

  • Noisy Tappets- Do you hear a tappet noise or other unusual noise as soon as you start your car? For the most part, this noise is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about; in fact, it will often disappear after a few minutes of the engine running. However, if the noise persists, it could indicate the need for an oil change.

Dealing With Mx5 Faults

If you are faced with dealing with some type of fault with your Mx5, there are several steps you can take.

  • DIY- Some faults can be easily repaired without the help of a professional, simply because they are easy to do. This includes repairs like spraying the runners of the windows with silicone spray when they start to run slow.

  • Get Professional Help- Even when problems are minor, it never hurts to get help from a trusted source. A professional garage or mechanic will be able to not only repair any broken Mx5 parts you have quickly, but will be able to do so the right way, so you don’t have to worry about other issues developing.

  • Prevention- Just because these faults are common with the Mx5, doesn’t means they are going to happen. You can prevent them. Keep a close eye on your vehicle and take it in regularly for scheduled maintenance. You may be able to spot a problem before it becomes too serious.

Thinking of purchasing an Mx5? Make sure you’re aware of its faults and are ready to repair any car parts that may break down.
