You’ve heard it said over and over again: never text while driving. Still, like thousands of other individuals on the road today, you can’t seem to help yourself. Every time that phone jingles, you have to grab it. You have to know who is texting and what they are saying.

You’ve heard it said over and over again: never text while driving. Still, like thousands of other individuals on the road today, you can’t seem to help yourself. Every time that phone jingles, you have to grab it. You have to know who is texting and what they are saying.

While you might not have experienced any negative side effects of texting while driving, many other individuals have. Let’s take a look at why texting while driving is a bad idea and why you should stop now.

Top Reasons to Stop Texting and Driving

  • It’s Illegal- In the UK, it is against the law to use any type of handheld device while operating a motor vehicle, even if that vehicle is stopped at a traffic light. It’s even illegal to use your handheld device for calling or texting if you are with a learner driver.
  • It’s Dangerous- According to the Dailymail.co.uk, more than 3,000 teenagers are killed each year because of car crashes that resulted because of texting. Texting-related crash deaths have become more frequent than alcohol-related deaths, which number only 2,700 a year. In addition, a recent study has shown that car crashes are 23 times more likely when the driver is texting.
  • You Aren’t Paying Attention to the Road- If you’re looking at a phone, you aren’t paying attention to the road in front of you. This means you won’t be able to react as quickly for sudden stops and may not notice debris or pedestrians in your path.
  • You Aren’t Paying Attention to Your Audi- When your focus is on the phone and not your driving, you aren’t only not devoting your full attention to the road, but you have little focus left for other important matters, like the car. You aren’t going to notice rattling car parts, changes in the way the Audi handles, or see the blinking check engine light that could indicate serious problems with the Audi’s parts. You’re too busy texting.
  • It’s Expensive- Think that since you haven’t had a car accident you’re okay to text? No so. Even if you are lucky enough to never be involved in a vehicle accident caused by texting, you still risk a hefty fine of £90 if you’re caught. This fine is set to increase from the previous penalty of £60 throughout the UK.
  • You Will be Punished- If you are caught texting while driving anywhere in the UK, you will not only have to pay the £90 fine, but you will also be given three penalty points on your licence. These new penalties are a part of a message the transport minister is attempting to send to drivers who drive dangerously: you will be punished.
  • You Will be Caught- Some drivers believe one or two text messages sent every once in a while can’t hurt. Some even believe they can be sneaky about sending them and simply deny their existence if they are pulled over. Unfortunately for these individuals, this is not the case. Because mobile phones are so technically sophisticated, it is easy for the court to pinpoint the time of every text and the location of the driver. Even if the driver believes he has erased the evidence, the phones keep permanent and accurate records of this behaviour.

Do you still text and drive? Take a moment to think about all the reasons you shouldn’t be taking part in this practise. Is that one text really worth your money, reputation, or life? Are you willing to sacrifice the safety of others and the functionality of your Audi and Audi parts because of it? Don’t risk it for a text.
