Your Brakes are Squealing. Should You Panic?

The brakes on your Peugeot are an important safety feature; in fact, they may be the most important. So, when they begin squealing, most drivers experience a sense of panic over what might be wrong. The problem is, brakes squeal for a number of reasons. Sometimes it’s a serious problem that does warrant a bit of panic. Other times, however, there might not be anything wrong at all.

There are some times when brake noise, even noise that seem ominous, is completely normal. Driving conditions, like sandy or dusty conditions, severe braking when you need come to a quick stop, or even humidity can cause brake noise to occur. Other times high-pitched noises can be caused by brake pads that are often found on new cars. These pads are semi-metallic, which is longer-lasting and much safer than the older, asbestos material that previous brakes were made out of. However, these new materials can cause annoying noise that can worry a driver.

Other Reason for Brake Squeals

  • Compact Cars- Hearing squealing Peugeot parts can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’re in a smaller car, like the Peugeot 207. Luckily, this often doesn’t indicate any real problem. Smaller, compact cars often have trouble with brake squealing, especially when the brakes are damp or cold. Some cars may have noisier brakes than others, but it can usually be fixed by replacing these car parts and choosing brembo brake
    pads that will last longer.

  • Disc Vibrations-Car parts like brakes don’t work by themselves; they rely on other Peugeot parts to function correctly. This may be the problem if you’re hearing squealing. Brake pads have to squeeze against a metal disc in order to help the car come to a complete stop. Unfortunately, this disc can sometimes vibrate and cause an annoying sound.

  • Brake Pads Are Bad- Did you know that brake pads are specifically designed to make certain noises when they wear down and begin going bad? This lets the driver know that something is wrong and that the brake pads need to be replaced. If you’re hearing a lot of noise, but aren’t sure what the problem is, get your Peugeot into your mechanic as quickly as possible. Keeping your brakes in good condition is essential for your safety, so the sooner you know if something is amiss, the better.

Squealing Brakes: Fixing Peugeot Parts

Sometimes the only fix for squealing brakes is time and patience. This is especially true if the noise is caused by the environment or weather. If the brakes are going bad, however, the only way to fix the squeal is to replace them completely.

  • Replace the brake pad with a different brand; not every brake pad is made of the same materials or made the same way.
