You’ve spent months researching the next car you want to purchase, and you’ve finally narrowed down the selection to two of the hottest coupes on the market: the Renault Megane and the Peugeot RCZ. They both offer many of the options you want including the sporty look and the perfect small size for you and your significant other, and maybe even a small child as well.
Choosing between these two cars won’t be easy, but by comparing their features, benefits, and disadvantages, you can find the one that is right for you.
Cost
The winner is: the Peugeot RCZ. With an average of 44 mpg, 149 g/km CO2 emissions, and £145 annual road tax, the cost of purchasing and operating the RCZ is significantly lower than that of the Renault Megane in most areas. However, you’ll most likely be able to insurance the Megane at a cheaper rate and be able to take advantage of a longer warranty period for repairs and replacements of Renault parts when you buy new. The Megane also has a less expensive price tag of £18,250 compared to £24,500 for the Peugeot.
Performance
The winner is: the Peugeot RCZ. While the Megane and the RCZ share similar qualities and car parts, like a manual gearbox, unleaded fuel, and a 1598 engine size, the RCZ has a top speed of 133 mph, 15 mph higher than the Megane, can reach 60 mph in only 8 seconds, and has more power and torque. The Megane does have a slightly larger fuel tank, however, that allows you to travel as much as 540 miles on one tank of petrol.
Measurements
The winner is: the Renault Megane. While it may not have the top-performing car parts the RCZ sports, the Megane makes up for it in space, especially in the boot. With the seats up, it offers 377 litres, and with the seats down it provides 991 litres of space. The Peugeot’s boot only provides 309 litres of space.
In addition to boot space, the Megane also offers something the Peugeot can’t: a coveted fifth seat.
Comfort
The winner is: The Renault Megane. Because the Megane is a slightly larger vehicle, it offers more comfort than the RCZ. It does come with a stiffer suspension, so some bumps and jolts can be felt, but noise from Renault parts like the engine and tyres is kept to a minimum. The RCZ isn’t incredibly uncomfortable for passengers, despite the lack of space. It does, however, have high pedals, which can make it very difficult for drivers with long legs to feel comfortable behind the wheel.
Which car is the winner for you? Both the Renault and Peugeot offer excellent qualities that any lover of coupes will enjoy, but choosing between the two is entirely your decision. Can’t decide yet? Take a test drive of both to see which one you feel more comfortable with when you’re behind the wheel. Then, consider this comparison carefully; think about the car parts beneath both bonnets and what they offer, how comfortable your family will be in the car, and how much storage and luggage space you’ll need.
