Historically, Honda Civics is reliable, cost effective vehicle options for individuals who want to purchase a new or used car. However, like any other car, it isn’t perfect, and there are certain problems every car owner should know about when they go to purchase one.

Honda Civic Car Parts and Problems

In general, Honda Civics are fantastic cars, but in 2001 to 2002 models and 2006 to 2007 models, there are some issues that you must be prepared for.

Manifold- In many 2001 and 2002 models, owners have reported serious problems with the exhaust manifold. Over time, cracks begin to form in these models, making it necessary to replace the entire manifold in order for the car to run correctly.

Headliners- You know the cloth that is attached to the interior roof of the car? In many 2001 Honda Civics, these headliners fall down and sag. While this is more annoying than problematic to the actual function of the car, it still needs to be replaced. Important note: don’t try to simply tack the headliner back up; it will fall down again. Instead, you’ll need to take out the entire headliner board and the fabric and glue the two together before putting it back in the car. Because some car parts and accessories may have to be removed in order to take out the board and headliner, you might need to consult a professional.

Engine Block- In the 2006 Honda model, the engine block tends to crack just above the car’s coolant channels and right around 90,000 miles. Repairing the problem is often impossible, which means the entire engine will have to be replaced for the car to run again. Preventative steps must be taken to keep this problem from ruining the engine and other Honda parts; the oil will need to be changed at regular intervals and the car will need to be inspected by a professional on a regular basis, especially as the mileage reaches 90,000.

Premature Tyre Wear- If you decide to purchase a 2007 Honda Civic, you should be aware of potential premature tyre wear. This is caused by both the type of tyres being used and certain car parts. In the front, the factory made Bridgestone tyres are often the culprit behind wear and tear. Rear tyre wear, however, is often caused by the control arm; these arms can be faulty and should be replaced if any problems are noticed.

HVAC Issues- On days when you want to run the air conditioner or the heater, you might be sorely disappointed if you own a 2001 to 2004 Civic. These models are notoriously known for their HVAC problems; in most cases, the fan that blows hot and cold air will either run at the highest speed or won’t work at all. Most often this is due to a faulty control unit, which will need to be replaced. There are times, however, when new thermal fuses and a bit of cleaning can help the HVAC system operate again.

Thinking of purchasing a Honda Civic? Like any car, there can be problems with Honda parts and the way the car runs. Be prepared for these issues so you can deal with them as quickly as possible.
