Land Rovers aren’t exactly known for their environmental friendliness, but the company has taken great strides in recent years to change that reputation. These days, the manufacturer has introduced a few electric and hybrid vehicles that not only reduce their driver’s carbon footprints, but help preserve our planet.
While there are several benefits to owning a hybrid or electric Land Rover, one of the biggest advantages is the energy saving mechanism known as regenerative braking. This type of system has become frequently use on many modern electric and hybrid vehicles for a number of reasons, the most significant of which is the energy it saves.
Regenerative braking is a type of mechanism that slows down the speed of a Land Rover, or any other type of electric or hybrid car, by converting some of the kinetic energy it uses into another form of useful energy. The energy that is captured is then stored so it can be used in the future or is fed back into the system so it can continue to supply power to the vehicle.
This act is significant because traditional braking wastes a lot of energy- energy that electric vehicles need to keep their batteries charged as much as possible. Most electric vehicles can save 10 to 25% of their energy with regenerative braking, and that saved energy can be used to recharge the battery, power the lights, or even propel the electric motor.
The advantages of regenerative braking are pretty clear-cut.
Essentially, regenerative braking allows Land Rover owners to ‘have their cake and eat it too.’ They not only get to drive a beautiful, well-equipped, and reliable vehicle like the Land Rover, but they also save energy and help the environment while doing so. Of course, there are some drawbacks to regenerative braking every Land Rover owner should be aware of.
So what do you think? If you had the opportunity to drive a Land Rover while taking advantage of car parts that reduce energy consumption, would you take it?
