Again Ford Wins Engine Of The Year

We are always interested in the technology thats going to be behind the world's future car engines.  Today Ford won the prestigious award for it's EcoBoost engine.  This 1 litre petrol engine has a turbo charger, fuel injection and variable valve timing.  The turbo charger compresses the air coming into the piston to make it more oxygen rich and the timing of the valves can be altered to be optimised for the speed the engine is currently running.  It's amazing how much more efficiency this can drive from a standard engine.  It's reported to increase fuel efficiency by 20%.

20% does not sound like a huge amount but that could mean 20% less oil needed for year for the same mileage.  I think anyone would welcome a 20% reduction in fuel bills per year at current petrol prices.
