Before the Vauxhall Adam was introduced to the world, Vauxhall had little to do with designing cars aimed specifically at urban fashionistas. This new vehicle offers an attractive eye-catching look that rivals that of the Mini or Fiat, and customisation that gives it a competitive edge. It looks brilliant on paper, but does it offer what we want? Let’s take a look.
While the Adam is much shorter, 25mm, than the mini, and wider than the Fiat at 170mm. It’s also taller than both of its competitors, and wider than the Vauxhall Corsa, a model that was built in the same German factory as the Adam.
The mechanical layout of the Adam is basically the same as the Corsa, with the Vauxhall parts like the engine, transmission, clutch central slave cylinder, and suspension at the front under the bonnet. The car is front wheel drive, as is common among smaller cars.
The engine choices offered are 1.4 litre with 86 or 99bhp or 69bhp with a 1.2 litre engine, and both are five-speed manuals. While this may be limiting at the moment, Vauxhall has promised that more engine choices will be available later on.
If you’re looking for choices, you don’t have to look far, especially when it comes to colours. 12 different body colours are available, each with contrasting roof colours. Customisation options like alloy wheel designs, decal packs, and optional exterior trim also ensure the appearance of your Adam looks the way you want it to.
There are several pros and cons to the performance of the Adam.
Like any other vehicle, purchasing the Vauxhall Adam means buying the occasional brake shoes, changing the oil, replacing the wiper blades, and taking care of any broken or failing Vauxhall parts that need to be addressed. This is simply part of the cost of owning a car.
In addition to these common expenses, you also need to consider the fuel economy of the car, which can cost much more than a few replacement car parts over the course of the Adam’s life span. Luckily, you won’t be disappointed with the results. The official mpg of the majority of Vauxhall Adam cars is 56.5 mpg. You can keep this figure as high as possible by choosing Adams fitted with 45 cm wheel instead of 40 or 43 cm wheels.
Are you looking for a small city car at a cost you can afford? While the Vauxhall Adam doesn’t wow or disappoint, it offers an attractive and average vehicle that is highly customisable and may be perfect for helping you get from one place to another.
