5 Tools You’ll Need to Change Your Land Rover’s Battery

Car batteries don’t tend to die when you’re sitting at your local garage or in your driveway on a sunny day. No, they tend to die at the most inconvenient times. Maybe you’re visiting relatives in a city you’ve never visited before, or you’re on your way to an important meeting at the office and it’s pouring down rain. This is life, and it’s one of the many reasons the majority of us are all too happy to pay for breakdown and recovery assistance when we purchase car insurance.

But what happens if you didn’t think ahead to do this and the battery in your Land Rover dies at the most unfortunate time? The first thing you should consider if leaving this job up to the professionals. Changing a battery yourself can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing; you could receive an electric shock or the heavy weight of the battery could cause a muscle strain.

Of course, this isn’t always an option, and sometimes you might want to take on car problems yourself. If this is the case, don’t start yanking the battery out of the Land Rover. To replace these Land Rover parts, you’re going to need the right tools.

Batteries: Tools to Replace These Land Rover Parts

  • Baking Soda, Water, and a Paintbrush- The combination may sound odd, but this mixture can go a long way in helping to clean the battery’s terminals. Mix together some baking soda and water in a bowl, then apply the mixture to the terminals. Just be sure the ignition is off when you do so.

  • Wrenches- Battery terminals are held together with fasteners like bolts and nuts. This means you’ll need a few different wrenches to loosen and remove them. Gather together a crescent wrench, socket wrench, and an adjustable wrench. If you don’t own a socket wrench, a pair of vise pliers will work. The majority of the time, these Land Rover parts will need to be removed with a 10mm wrench, so be sure to select this size.

  • Hammer- While there are no nails to pound in, a hammer can be the perfect tool when stubborn terminal cables don’t want to detach from the terminal post. A few gentle taps are all that’s needed to loosen them up.

  • Cleaners- Baking soda and water can go a long way in removing corrosion stuck to your terminals, but a good terminal cleaner can really come in handy when dealing with these car parts. In addition to cleaning the terminals, cleaners also prime the posts so that there will be a better connexion between the terminal cables and the new battery.

  • Protection- Any time you’re working with car parts, you want to make sure your body is protected, especially your hands and eyes. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing, safety goggles, and sturdy gloves.

No one likes to discover problems with their car, but removing old car parts, like batteries, from your Land Rover can be easy if you have the right tools to work with. When the unexpected occurs, whether it’s related to changing a battery, engine oil, or replacing a belt, make sure you’re ready with the proper equipment.
