5 of the Best Cars to Buy to Avoid Auto Theft

According to a recent report by NationMaster, the UK ranks second in the world for the most car thefts, totaling 348,169 a year. This is second only to the United States’, and sheds a very dim light for car owners across the nation.

In reality, though, this probably doesn’t come as a shock to you. You’ve most likely seen reports on the news about cars being stolen, perhaps even in your neighbourhood, and sold or stripped of their car parts. You might even know someone whose car has been stolen, or been a victim of this crime yourself.

It’s never easy dealing with any type of crime, but when it comes to your vehicle, it can be downright frustrating. When a house is broken into, a few mementos and expensive electronics may be stolen, and, while you fear for the safety of your family, replacing these items is a simple fix to the problem. In the end, you’re grateful your home is still where it should be. When your car is stolen, you are not only left feeling vulnerable, but you are left with nothing. The car is gone, and you simply have to wait for it to either be found or replaced.

Five Cars That Thieves Won’t Steal

While every single car on the road is vulnerable to being stolen, there are steps you can take to make sure you are purchasing a car that will remain yours for as long as you see fit: buy one that thieves don’t want to steal. What makes certain cars less likely to be stolen? There are a number of reasons, but in the end it comes down to whether the thieves view a car, or its car parts, as being worthy enough for them to risk jail time.

When you are in the process of purchasing a car, consider these models to reduce your chances of auto theft.

  • Mini Cooper Clubman- Small cars like this one are often avoided, simply because they are so tiny and aren’t as powerful as other models. Another downside to stealing this type of car is its unique styling that makes it memorable.
  • BMW 4WD 5 Series- Surprised to see this type of car on the list? While it may be flashy and just what thieves are looking for, new BMW parts called ignition immobilisers make this car almost impossible to steal. These BMW parts prevent the car from being hotwired.
  • Audi A6- The Audi A6 is a large luxury vehicle, and is just what thieves are looking for, right? Wrong. Thanks to Audi parts like ignition immobilisers, these cars, like those in the BMW 5 series, can’t be hotwired. They are also less likely to be available, as many of these cars are more likely to be sitting n a suburban garage at night, rather than on the street.
  • Volkswagen CC- Like the BMW and Audi, the Volkswagen CC contains advanced technology and car parts like a passive alarm and standard passive immobiliser. While it may look like a vehicle that would be worth stealing, it has the technological capability to prevent most attempted thefts.
  • Chevrolet Aveo- While this car will certainly get you from point A to point B, it is much less likely to be stolen because, to be blunt, it’s a dud. There’s no inspiration behind its design, and nothing to make it worth a thief’s time.

Want to purchase a car that will be safe from potential auto theft? You don’t have to buy an ugly or even used car. Some cars, like the BMW, Volkswagen, and Audi are expensive and beautiful machines you can drive with pride, while still avoiding possible theft.
