Airbag fitment

(1/2) > >>

Tommy Barr:
Does anyone know how feasible it is to fit an airbag to a non-airbag equipped car?. The handbook for my Vento says that a drivers airbag can be fitted to an existing car, but doesn't give much detail. Is this a dealer-only job?. I suspect it is, due to an airbag being an explosive device.

neo:
All the looms should be in place, so once you have all the kit it should be plug and play. As for the explosive device, it is only the bag built into the steering wheel that is the bit that goes bang.
You'll need access to Vag-Com to be able to tell the ecu that air bags are fitted though.

Tommy Barr:
Thanks, I thought that it might be the kind of thing that was only viable when new (or nearly so). I've looked around the area alongside the light switch, where the warning light unit fits, and didn't see any wiring that might be for the lamp (there are just two wires for the Abs lamp already fitted). So maybe some additional wiring is needed. The car is an 'AAZ' turbo diesel, and I'm pretty sure there isn't an engine Ecu fitted.

neo:
Hmmmm, not sure on those points. May be worth a visit to clubgti.com , someone there will know for sure

Tommy Barr:
Thanks, neo, I've joined up and asked about it.

The word seems to be No.
