Golf MK2 Resurrection
peyles:
Right...gear linkage rod replaced...gears still stiff but put this down to under usage and will slacken in time.
Coolant topped up and blowing lovely hot air through the vents. Temperature steady and didn't bother replacing the stat. New expansion tank cap fitted.
Brake light - faulty switch so new one ordered.
Handbrake - has now freed itself fine after driving the car round the block a couple of times. Result...!
The only real issue I have now is that it still stalls after removing my foot from the accelerator. Will only keep turning over if I apply a little revs. New petrol in and I drove it for about 5 minutes. Do I just need to keep it turning over for longer or is something else wrong here...?
Can't believe I actually just drove it round the block. Fair chuffed with myself...!

neo:
Have you been round the carb with the carb cleaner yet?
peyles:
Hmmm...must confess I haven't :-/
You'll need to walk me through the process...?
P.
neo:
1) Buy a tin of carburettor cleaner from halfrauds (or your friendly local gsf store)
2) Read instructions
3) Do what instructions say
4) Job done.
New fuel filter, dizzy cap and rotor wouldn't hurt either.
Can also cheat a bit by tweaking the throttle stop screw on the carb.
What are the revs on tickover when it's warmed up?
peyles:
Thanks neo...unfortunately I've now run out of time as it's going up to be checked over for it's MOT tomorrow so I'll just get the guy up there to look over it. It started first time today (no throttle) and seems to be running a bit smoother which was encouraging. The Driver doesn't have a rev counter so no idea what they are, but it really doesn't take much throttle to keep him running so I'm hoping, like you say, it's just a case of carb cleaner will sort it.
Will let you know how I get on...!
