850 t5 rough running please please help!!!!

(1/1)

volvovirgin:
ive posted before but thought i should start fresh to see if anyone can shed some light on my problem :)

my volvo 850 t5 1995
its not running right!! ive changed the ecu, afm, and now just this minute fitted an aftermarket adjustable fuel regulator,

now the problem is on tickover it will generally rev free and clean round to the limiter, but as soon as i drive it she wont go above 4500rpm (or there abouts) with black smoke coming from the exhaust and where it would rev freely before in neutral it wont!!

does anyone now of a decent independent mechanic, shop or garage or a mobile diagnostic firm that know what their doing but dont want you to pay for their new back extention in return for their services!

i bought the car as a little project its in good condition but no mot or tax so cant really drive it about on the public roads, having said that if its close enough can 'arrange'    for the car to be brought in :)

JOHN@HEATHROW:
VV,
Black smoke is normally down to the fuel not being burnt correctly, sounds strange but have you checked the igntion system is working as it should. From the sounds of it it only seems to be "failing" under load which can be put down the majority of the the time to failing  ignition leads.
Could be worth just giving the dizzy cap/rotor a once over as well.

yeah i sort of overlooked that as im new to the volvo world and looking through other posts everything seemed to be sensors and electrical faults i forgot about the good old days where everything was down to points plugs and leads  :) will check them out as soon as i get in!! also do you know what sort of pressure the fuel reg should be set to i put in on 3bar as i read thats what they should be :?
