A140 Rear Door Lock
(1/1)
alhambraman:
Hi There,
Need some help on a MERC if anyone can assist?
My neighbour has a Mercedes A140, and I came home to find her trying to get the rear passenger door to shut.
The actual latching mechanism would not 'latch' on the bar in the door opening.
I tried WD-40 on the lock, and manually operating it, but still no attempt to latch, it's like it's sprung open??
I tried to get the lock out of the door, but found I couldn't detach the bar that goes from the outer door handle, to the latching mechanism itself.
Does this bar disengauge from the hande end, or the lock end?
I think the handle end, and should be forced sideways, but can anyone help please?
A diagram of the assembly would be great, or at least a description on how to get the thing out of the door. (It was completely loose)
As far as I can tell the bellows for the central locking seemed to be fine - I have been told these tend to play up.
Cheers
Dave

Alman,
Looks like you are right, the "pull rods" have to be disconected from the handles, as they are an integral part of the lock/latch mech.
Looks like a couple of clips at the handle(s) end which have to be popped off.
Does the latch lock itself up when its not trying to catch the latch (when the doors open for eg) :?:
I'll see if i can get a parts diagram of the offending parts posted on here for you

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply, and no the latch won't lock itself up at all, hence the piece of rope temporarily holding the rear doors shut by the inner handles !!
My neighbour has ventured off to work today, so haven't had chance to talk to her since the last attempt to get the lock out.
A diagram would be great if you can get one on here.
Cheers
Dave
