BMW E46 Heater/AC Blower Faulty Resistor Pack change

(1/1)

ghdirect:
Has anyone actually managed to changed the resistor pack on E46?

The console heater/air con blower on my 2001/325 R/H drive coupe suddenly started to have a mind of its own, blowing from nothing to flat out. Yet the icon on the control panel works fine. The Internet suggest this is a known fault caused by a faulty heater/AC resistor pack. Has anyone in UK forum actually managed to change this item The resistor pack sits in the blower area on R/H side of foot well, you access it by removing the small lower vent control motor & it's bracket. After a couple of hours I gave up trying to locate the torx screws that I believe holds this bracket. There is so little space to see or work, and the steering column on R/H drive also gets in the way.

i done it!!!

used this guide to help.
http://www.motormec.co.uk/aircon.pdf
i put some kneepads on and had a torch..
one thing that wasn't mentioned in the guide is the 2 screws holding the bracket are not philips screws, but star shaped...needs to be small short to clear the steering column. i could just about see the hidden screw with the corner of my eye...but had to get my head right in there!!

good luck, if you still need to tackel it!
