Clutch
(1/1)
ezee_duzit:
What are the telling signs that my clutch may be on the way out? I have a 99' 306 done 100k just noticed the other day its starting to feel a little stiffer.
When pressing the clutch in whilst stationary at the point just before its fully depressed it almost feels as if it goes from tight then slips to fully depressed. yesterday afternoon while driving round town when pulling away it has started to judder.
Was hoping maybe just a cable adjustment but believe its self adjusting so might be worth chaning or is it more terminal than that?
Thanks for your help.
DocBrown:
I used to own a 306 TD with stiff clutch action due to split cable where it runs along suspension subframe, near to steering rack. Rain and road dirt had corroded the outer cover and rusted the actual cable causing binding. This can happen when the protective under-tray goes missing thus allowing debris and water to build up.
I would check condition of cable first and adjustment settings before condeming the clutch. Check the clutch pedal free play and travel (See Haynes manual) and make sure it's within prescribed limits. If it still feels stiff and/or the clutch bites at the top end when the pedal is almost up then you've got a worn clutch.
