More Caliper Qestions

Due to possibly the worst ever designed calipers i have come across, i need to see if anyone has come across the same problem & solved it.
G3 ABD engine 94 M.Y.
Stupid, stupid caliper bolts directly onto the Hub carrier   .
Stupid, stupid said calipers are held in by stupid allen bolts (whats wrong with normal bolts  :? )
Stupid stupid allen bolts have peviously been attacked by some animal, who has managed to properly round the ****ing things off.
Any ever had this prob & solved it with out taking half the Bl**dy car apart.
I thought the Germans were great engineers - till now  :x
Not happy from Heathrow...

You need a 7mm allen socket, hammered deep inside the slider bolt.
If (when by the sounds of it!) this fails, then cut away the rubber boot and get some molegrips on the slider bolt.
It'll stuff the bolt so you'll need to go to eurocrapprats (or another supplier if you know of any) for a new set, but should come out ok.

Neo,
Thanks for that, i've tried a slighty bigger hex (not sure of the size, its rubbed off  ), but looks like the std size is a 7mm as we have these in stock, may have to try a 8mm, avec grande hammer.
If that dont work i would imagine its fubar, may be off with the carrier after that    .

get the grips on it then. Decent pair that lock properly, and you may get away with just sliding the boot back slightly rather than cutting it.

Other thing to try is a torx or star bit hammered in before the grips

Hi John,
We always warmed these up before even attempting to remove them, always seized, VW must had a deal on allen srews at the time, ever tried to undo the brake load valve on the N/S of the rear frame behind the subframe mount.  :(
Good luck,
 John

Reverse thread thingies (top right) I wish I knew the real name  just drill in with them or (if I don't get banned for it) Irwin Blot-grips over the top. Not used them yet but people recommend them. Just got mine today so not used in anger (you get 5 in the set and 5 in the expansion {larger size} but I gave 2 to a mate)

(Could be a good thing for GSF to stock and flag up in the general section as it's a bay-wonder as far as I know)

Can you guess what's wrong with my car?
