Flashing Glow Plug Light

(1/2) > >>

Help needeed please :?
I have had trouble starting my Seat Alhambra for a couple of days now due to my wife doing short journeys. and when we finally got it going, everything seemed fine until 30 seconds after the engine started then the glow plug light started flashing.

On reading some other forums,  could this mean a blown brake bulb?
I checked all the bulbs, and the only one that had gone was the numberplate one on the drivers side. (So replaced)

I've tried all the other electrics, and all seem fine (Everything seems to work?)
I did try disconnecting the battery too, in case it needed a reset or something; the dials go to full scale then back to normal on first turn of the key, and the trip meter resets.

Has anyone got any ideas why the light continues to flash 30 seconds after starting (Starts first time now after a long run)

Cheers
Dave

Well as you say, one of the classic scenarios is that the glow plug light flashes if a brake lamp is blown which is just totally bizarre and caught me out just a few weeks ago on a Seat Leon

The flashing plug light seems to be used in place, or as well as, an engine management check light and from what I've read can cover anything from a cam position sensor to pure simple faulty glow plugs!  :?

Possibly the best bet, although not the cheapest, is to get the codes read?

One other question though, does the vehicle have a tuning chip or box fitted? In the past I've found dodgy connections on these can cause the same symptom as can poor connections at the MAF.

You would never guess in a million years what the problem was?
The CD changer .....

I had the fortune of having a relatively boring radio station on, so decided to put the CD on (Factory 6 disk changer in the back)
It came up Error1, seen this before, so turned off and on a couple of times, and selected a disk.
Glow plug light just stopped flashing :D

I bet this would have cost a few pounds in the garage eh?

Oh well It's fixed, and all is well :!:  :!:

Unbelievable!

I'd love to meet the designer who thought using the flashing glow plug symbol to indicate a range of non-serious faults on the vehicle was a good idea!

This has to take the award for Design Muppetry!

Glad you got it sorted  8)

Hi All,

Managed to get the codes read, and it showed a faulty lifting sensor on the No.3 injector.
Seems that this fault that came up as a result of the battery going flat and because of the poor starting.
The poor starting in turn ended up being the Glow plugs!!

DOH!!

Should have checked these first eh?
The thing is that it did eventually start, and was OK after that.

Anyway, all resolved :)
