Blocked oil breather would be the obvious thing

******** VAG Tech Advice *********
If it dont run right cold, change the blue temp sender.
If it aint got a spark, check earths, coil connections.
If it idles like ****, clean the ISV and throttle body.
For all other problems, use a hammer

I agree with neo, a blocked breather system will cause crankcase to pressurise and blow oil dipstick.
Can also be caused by oil level too high thus causing excessive pressure build up and can also be caused by a worn engine where compression pressure is bypassing worn pistons and piston rings and cylinders thus causing build-up of pressure in sump/crankcase area. Often seen with fumes from oil filler cap, leaking camshaft and crankshaft oil seals and loads of oil in air filter housing.
How many miles has it done?

Thanks gents. The berlingo was bought new in 05, and has covered 57K. Most of these were covered before June 07. I used the citroen dealer to service her the first time. Basically an oil change cost me £170 so I hoped that they got a good look at her when they had the chance becuase I wouldnt be paying £170 pound every 10K miles. (I do close on 40K miles each year though the berlingo is now my wifes car) I would be reluctant to take her back to them as if they should charge for labor then I would be hit with a big bill. Is there much work involved if the oil breather is blocked? The mechanic that I use for servicing only uses citroen genuine parts.

Unblocking breather pipework is normally just a matter of removing crankcase breather pipes and associated filter traps etc and blasting them out with carburettor cleaner and/or airline. A pipe cleaner helps of a piece of wire with a clock tied to the end and then fed down the blocked pipes. Only use when pipes removed from the car otherwise all the gunk will either fall into the sump of get dragged into the intake system.

Hello.
I have a 2005 berlingo multi space. When it covers about 8k miles, (4k before service is due)it requires a small nbit of oil to be added to keep the level safebut it also blows the dipstick out. Thankfully it does blow the oil the dip stick channel.I asked my mechanic and he unsubtly suggested that I hadnt th edip stick in properly - very much not the case. Has anyone else out there in cyber space experienced the same problem.? Any advice would be good. Thanks Rocky
