You can use a ecu from another veh and it will work may run lumpy but after a short drive it will self adapt to your spacific engine to a cirtain extent, you may find that the light will stay on and will have to be deleted, make sure the ecu is from a veh with the same engine code. a main dealer should be able to do basic settings for you in about 1/2 hr, and turn the light off if its on.

Audi A4 TDI ECU problem

Further to my previous post, my car (1997 a4 tdi 110) appears to have a fault with the ecu. Code shows MAP sensor short to power) which i presume means a short circuit. Problem is MAP built into ecu. Is it correct that if i disconnect the ecu,or swap it, i have to take the car to audi dealer to set the basic settings and immobiliser? My local dealer says they will only do it if I buy a new ecu from them at a cost of £1000+. What if I take the old ecu for repair? will it still lose its settings?
