TDI Tensioner Noise?
neo:
Some garages class themselves as specialists when they have done the job before on one car....... "yeah that took us 4 hrs to do (because we didnt know what we we're doing) so we're experts now"
If theyve charged for coolant then waterpump may have been changed too?
Doubt the stealers would have charged that much would they?
******** VAG Tech Advice *********
If it dont run right cold, change the blue temp sender.
If it aint got a spark, check earths, coil connections.
If it idles like ****, clean the ISV and throttle body.
For all other problems, use a hammer

Yeah I asked for waterpump to be changed as well and that was part of the £360 quote (and exactly what was done on the Leon too) so it's a massive hike for just one extra tensioner.

Anybody else experienced tensioner noise from the belts area on the TDi engines?
Sod's Law states: after doing all the recent work to keep the 02 Octy roadworthy, including the saga of the cv boot splitting thanks to aftermarket pads, I took the car for it's retest this morning and the mechanic noticed the "death rattle" of a tensioner failing.
His advice was not to drive the car at all but get it sorted asap. It's booked in for Monday morning at a local specialist (40 miles away so fingers and everything else crossed she makes it there!).
The rattle is intermittent, definitely more pronounced on start-up, which makes me wonder if it's the drive belt tensioner rather than timing belt ones..........any ideas?
