Pin outs on the rear light clusters

Sorry I forgot to say it was a 1998 Polo mk4 hatchback and also that I will not be using the towbar for a caravan just some bikes so I wont be clogging up any roads as a result!

I suppose you wish to use the spare sockets on the lighting boards, as i think factory fitment towing installations do. I'm not sure about your polo, but there're usually markings on the plastic casing to identify the pinouts. They're in german, but looking at one for a golf, they are BR (Brems) for brake lamps, BL re/- for right indicator, BL li/re for left, and 58re/- and 58li/re for tail lamps, leaving NES as rear fog lamp and RF as reverse.

Thanks for that.  I did work this out.  eventually.  once I realised that 31 meant earth then it was just a matter of trial and error

Does anybody know what the pin outs on the rear light clusters are?  Im installing a towbar and would rather not have to splice into any cables.
