VW Water Cooled / Re: Airbag fitment

Thanks, donny,

I've made a start on finding an airbag steering wheel and the necessary fittings, but the warning light module's tricky to find, for airbag and early-type Abs. I'll keep on looking, though, since the cost of a new one is in 3 figures.

donny,

Can the pollen filter housing be fitted instead of the plain housing? I don't suppose that the Vento is different from the Golf in this respect.

Thanks, neo, I've joined up and asked about it.

The word seems to be No.

Thanks, I thought that it might be the kind of thing that was only viable when new (or nearly so). I've looked around the area alongside the light switch, where the warning light unit fits, and didn't see any wiring that might be for the lamp (there are just two wires for the Abs lamp already fitted). So maybe some additional wiring is needed. The car is an 'AAZ' turbo diesel, and I'm pretty sure there isn't an engine Ecu fitted.

VW Water Cooled / Airbag fitment

Does anyone know how feasible it is to fit an airbag to a non-airbag equipped car?. The handbook for my Vento says that a drivers airbag can be fitted to an existing car, but doesn't give much detail. Is this a dealer-only job?. I suspect it is, due to an airbag being an explosive device.

Having borrowed the haynes manual and peeked inside a few other cars, the connectors wire colours match those mentioned for a headlamp levelling adjuster. Backing this up, the colours also appear at a connector in the engine compartment for the headlamps, indicators, etc.

Thanks, neo

The wiring installation in the car does seem to be of a better standard than I've struggled with on 80's and 90's Fords. Having had a look behind the fusebox, there are lots of additional connectors hanging about.

Thanks, neo. I was just curious, really. In fact, I wondered afterwards if it meant 'approximately'.

Why do so many posts have an upper-case letter 'A' (with a poncey circumflex) before the '£' sign, when prices are quoted?

On my Vento there's a spare 3-pin connector behind the light switch. Does anyone know what this is for?

Coolant leaks occur anywhere in the cooling system. Most of the time, one can see leaks simply by opening the hood. The most common places where leaks may occur are:
- a worm seal on the water pump

Also check the ATF oil cooler.

I'd have thought that the problem was sorted by now, but where does the original poster state that the Alhambra is an automatic? Or is jb a yankee, and assuming it has a 'slushbox'?

MMMMMmmmmm   the light came back on yesterday  and off today! strange

I see it has an ERG of some kind, any issues with clogging up?  Gordon

I think you may mean Egr (exhaust gas recirculation), Gordon. Usually used on turbocharged engines, diesels in particular I think.

Never mind, It's an easy thing to overlook, with the low traffic on this forum. That topic was still on the first page of the listings, despite being made in august. Incidentally, I wonder who 'the fecker' was? The O.P's boss?
