The dark one now outsizes rat dog by quite a bit 8)

« on: November 18, 2009, 05:57:57 PM »
Eh what  :?
No we have stock of these caliper (at heathrow at least  :P ) i know this because i fitted a rear one to mine last week.
Maybe the branch got a little confused between no stock & deleted lines.
Assume yours is a 90> model or 88> with ABS for the fronts, rear are the same on all years

Car News / New BMW X1
« on: October 27, 2009, 06:04:49 PM »
MPD,
Sorry, cant see the problem  :? .
This posts title sort of says what its about

"Post any news and reviews that you might have about your car and its makers....".

I wasn't aware of another BMW that has no real place/niche in the market
Cant really see where its meant to fit in myself (just like the X6 or Merc R-class   ).
Someone will obviously purchase one just cause its a new Bee-mer, not especially cause it's a good car (very "soft roader").

Thats my answer to will's question.

Manufacturers websites dont really have any negative impact on our business. and if people buy now we'll see them in couple years in the aftermarket .

VW Water Cooled / suspension problem

f,
Doesn't sound so bad if thats all that was pulled up on it  :)
Looks like you have 4 main rear bushes onto the body on these, so may not be as much of a mare of a job as say a Mk4 Golf (hopefully  :?:  ). GSF#  42360 (£11.75 ea) BTW    .

VW Water Cooled / Power Steering Oil VW Golf MK4?
« on: October 14, 2009, 01:17:09 PM »
Jazzy,
G002 has been replaced by G004. hence when you type G002 into the febi site it directs you to  06161.
I belive febi 06162 was correct for the G002 when it was still current, but the new G004 has the number 06161 (or CHF11S depending on which vehicle you have  )
Both seem to be interchangable & can be mixed (depending on who you ask  :? ), CHF11S (in theory) has somthing added to cut down on foaming which sometimes happens in the
systems.
VAG seem to have done the same with the G12 antifreeze, 2008> vehicles use a different type which can be used in earlier versions, but NOT the otherway round  .
Hope this helps

VW Water Cooled / suspension problem
« on: October 07, 2009, 12:18:50 PM »
Frijj.
The part numbers you are looking at are good, gas shocks give a firmer ride than you would get from std oil filled shocks (although gas units contain oil too  :? ) it's not somthing that will shake your teeth out, but if you are using the old springs these (gas) would be ones i would go for.
spring compessors are avail from us # 98740 (£25.65 + VAT) these have a "double prong" fitment on the coil which makes them a bit safer  8) .
As for the chassis number confusion it should read somthing like this:
WVWZZZ31ZPE012345
The bold letters/numbers are whats normally important.
First should be a model code, second is the model year, third is the actual numeric chassis/vin number.

VW Water Cooled / suspension problem
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:42:53 AM »
Frijj,
As P points out, its not vital that you replace eveything front & back, but is advisable to replace in pairs (both front or both rears).
You will need to double check the chassis number with your own vehicle, if not we can confirm it for you as to what you will need -cause we're good like that  8) .
As for the swopping out springs when doing the shocks, its not always a given thay will need doing, altough they will loose some of their strength over time it would be up to you  :?:
I would recomend changing the strut mounts if you are doing the fronts, and as for tools at the vey least a good set of spring compressors & some H/duty sockets (impact type) cause suspension bolts tend to be "tight" to say the least.
Hope this helps

Seat Forum / Ibiza FR parts request
« on: September 23, 2009, 01:47:18 PM »
Dazz,
Best thing to do with this would be to put the enquiry through to sales@gsfcarparts.com : if you can supply them with your chassis/reg number because they should operate off build (PR) codes just like the VW range.
We will see what we can do for you  :D

i belive the tech term for the area of said bolts is the "spring plate".
Bit of tight squeeze with body on but we can lift that off i a jiffy (due to ony putting a couple of bolts in at when we took it off 12/13yrs ago   )
We have to try & get them off with out tooo much damage to the surrounding area.
Ideas as always welcome

These things had engines
At least if we put it in it may bring the front up a bit, seems a touch low at the moment - as seen in these arty pics which i will now post as promised to the rest of the team.

I must admit its a great looking car - the beetle needs some work though  :D

Should we be worried ???
1967 T1,strangely its better than it looks as its been garaged for the last 18/19 years while work was being carried out on it.
it is a "rolling restoration" as that's about all it does at the moment - roll

The chap in the back of the bug was at the time, scrapping out what he could of the remains of 2/3 rat like creatures which liked it so much they lived in the centre tunnel till they clocked out
Keep your coupling cover in place is the moral of that one me thinks

Audi Car Parts Forum / noddy question - oil grade for 1.8T (98 A3 T-Sport)
« on: September 08, 2009, 04:11:53 PM »
Mattie,
Looks like there are at least two grades listed for this (assuming it not on a long life sched?)
One of the main grades is indeed the 5w40 which i belibve is a synthectic based oil, the other  (cheaper  ) is the 10w40 semi synthetic type.
Both of these are listed as be being suitible for the VW501.01 & 502.00 vag recomendations.

THATS IT !!!

A) S.D good to you still kicking around, still using the dishwaher to clean your Fiat engine parts ?
B) Peyles - i hope you are getting some sort of decent feed back from here, after all thats why were are on here for
C) Perite - a lot of what you post is helpful - but  can you calm the sarcastic/sarcastic comments down a bit please    (funny/sarcastic is ok :D )

I remember the first bit of DIY i did on my car, it took me  3 DAYS to get a trunnion off my Marina (Damn Top Gear    ) but since then i've learned a hell of a lot more than i would if i had a garage doing it - we who choose to do our own work need help every now & again - please don't knock people for trying.

As for Banning people, approving new forum members (& you would be surprised at the amount i choose NOT to "activate" for different reasons :o ) it is down to me at the moment - so please do not blame the mods on the forum.

If anyone has probs with this - pleease feel free to  PM me  and we can( i hope  :?:  ) sort out any probs.

We are here to help each other - not to put people off using the site because they think its just full of bickering people who just slate each other. bad karma and all
