VW Water Cooled / Re: Front Shocks
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:50:06 PM »
blimey, this forum is well hidden now :-\, good to see some can still find it :D.
Peyles, is this still the infamous g2? if so dont forget that from 90> they only came as a complete strut - but they can be fitted to earlier vehicles no problem & for the minimal price diff these would be my choice & you get a shiney outside to keep the mot magpies happy.
as for tools and parts as neo says- strut top mount tool, ring spanner, allen key set, spring compressor, strut top mount kit(inc the bearing).
TBH if you are looking to working on your car(s)in the future all the above tools should be in the garage, cause you will use them again  8)
it's one of those jobs that if you do it,you will feel confidant to do it again(spcially if you keep the golf ::))

blimey, blast from the past :D.
i would just charge it & see what happens, worst case is you will need a new one, but if after you charge it any probs when trying to start the beast, change the battery - don't forget cheapest option first 8)

VV,
Black smoke is normally down to the fuel not being burnt correctly, sounds strange but have you checked the igntion system is working as it should. From the sounds of it it only seems to be "failing" under load which can be put down the majority of the the time to failing  ignition leads.
Could be worth just giving the dizzy cap/rotor a once over as well.

srank,
As neo says, that is one way to do it, alternativley another thing to do with this would be to put the enquiry through to sales@gsfcarparts.com : if you can supply them with your chassis/reg number because these operate off build (PR) codes just like the VAG range.
We will see what we can do for you  :D

VW Water Cooled / Passat brake pedal sinking
« on: February 12, 2010, 05:57:34 PM »
G,
Did it have any of these pedal problems before the pads were swapped out?
Fom what you say, it does sound like the classis BMC problem, although i know some of these later Passats / A4 can suffer from brake servo issues as well, although from what info i can get, that problem tends to make the pedal solid, rather then spongey.
Also on any vehicle which runs the handbrake off of the caliper (as opposed to seperate shoes) it always good to double check the handbrake is correctly adjusted.
Dont forget that as with any new disc/pad set up it may take a bit of time to settle down (bed in ) properly.

Richy,
Looks like we can help you with this :D .
Green cap # 193VG0110 £3.25 + vat
Bearing # 193VG0040  £3.95 + vat
As for the release arm, we only keep what we call the "operating lever"
which is the little arm held on by a circlip which sits on the end of the operating shaft.
Price on the lever £12.50 + vat.

All are in stock at Heathrow at the moment.
Hope this helps

Alman,
Looks like you are right, the "pull rods" have to be disconected from the handles, as they are an integral part of the lock/latch mech.
Looks like a couple of clips at the handle(s) end which have to be popped off.
Does the latch lock itself up when its not trying to catch the latch (when the doors open for eg) :?:
I'll see if i can get a parts diagram of the offending parts posted on here for you

GG,
Normally spluttering under load (accelerating), or rough idle could normally be put down to the ign leads breaking down, could also be worth looking at the air mass meter as these also seem to be giving problems on mercs at the  moment   .
BTW what engine was in the vechicle  :?:
