Audi Car Parts Forum / Snow
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:16:12 PM »
I would just like to say my A4 Quattro played an absolute blinder last night through all the snow.

We sailed past bogged down BMWs and Mercs and even a Landrover at one point without putting a foot wrong.

Judging by the conversations with my near neighbours this morning we were the only ones who didn't have to walk home.

Good work Audi designers!

VW Water Cooled / 92 Scirocco GTII Rear Axle Roll Bar Clamps
« on: October 10, 2009, 11:17:26 AM »
Good morning

I'm now refurbishing the rear axle and I've hit a dead stop.

The rear anti roll bar is secured to the trailing arm by a big strap that is held together by a wedge clamp that has a tab to lock it in place.

Unsurprisingly this is now a solid lump of corrosion so it's out with the grinder.

Problem is the parts are now obsolete as far as a main dealer is concerned

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket solution available?

Thanks in advance
BDS

VW Water Cooled / 1992 Scirocco GTII Driveshafts

Belated thanks Neo
That is pretty much like the illustration from the Haynes manual showing one dished washer but no indication whether it is splined or plain

I have to say I am pretty hacked off with this whole deal as it appears that the joint kit that I bought from GSF in the belief that it was an outer CV joint before discovering it was an inner is just a collection of miscellaneous bits that have been stuck in a box and put on the shelf because when I came to fit it last weekend it turned out to be about 10mm smaller than the other side.  I've lost the recipt so I'm just going to have to swallow that one

When I fitted the other side the joint was so tight on the splines that I had to drive it on with a sleeve and hammer which meant dis-assembling the joint which is now locked solid on re-assembly

I have now bought two aftermarket quality joint kits and spent the last two evenings fabricating a puller to avoid having to drive them on to the splines only to find that they slide on with no effort BUT they only come with plain dished washers that slide straight over the driveshaft shoulder meaning I have had to fit the splined washers from the original kits

honestly, I am almost at the point of weeping...

Evening All

When I stripped down my driveshafts for refurbishing there was no need to take photos because:
A: I wouldnt be stupid enough to forget how to put them back together and
B: I've got a Haynes manual

I've now got immaculate powder coated shafts and brand new inner and outer CV joints and a serious memory crisis

The inner joint kit has a serrated concave washer which obviously butts on the shoulder of the shaft but it also has a plain concave washer and I've got no idea where it goes. The Haynes only shows one washer

The Outer joint has a conical rubber washer/seal which again I'm not sure on and it doesn't appear in the Haynes

Any help is appreciated

VW Water Cooled / Scirocco brake crank assembly
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:58:04 PM »
Thanks Cristal

I actually ended up drilling the heads off completely so I now have the column fully removed.

I have always been under the impression that steering column shear bolts were as hard as you like and couldn't be drilled so I assumed there was something highly technical to get them out

Everyday is a day in school (especially when you own a scirocco)

OK, seven hours later I have an even bigger pile of nuts bolts and washers and another question:

How do you remove the steering column shear bolts to remove the pedal box?

TIA

Morning all

This has really got me stumped.

I'm tearing down my GTII for a complete refurb and I've got to the  crank assembly from the brake pedal to the vacuum servo. I've got the crank off but the channel beam behind is "locked" by two studs from the bulkhead facing forward and two welded studs from the channel beam facing down. The other end is held by the servo bracket.

How do you get this out without grinding the studs off?

Thanks in advance

I had a Clifford fitted to my SAAB 9000 which used to go off every evening while parked outside my house.

In the end I realised it was whenever my missus used the microwave. It must put out some sort of pulse or spike of energy

Could it be something like that?

Audi Car Parts Forum / 1999 A4 2.8 V6 quattro won't start

Hi Dan

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I got the thing hooked up to a diagnostic set and it showed one oxygen sensor open circuit and one intermittant.

According to the guy who did it it was running really rich and all the plugs were heavily sooted up

Both plugs and sensors replaced and running like a charm now

Cheers
Steve

Evening all

I picked up a T reg 2.8 A4 the other day which seemed to be running fine.

I've been away for a couple of days to see Pompey get trounced by Wolfsburg and now to add to my depression the car won't start.

It's turning over and feels like it wants to fire but doesn't catch. The display shows 'OK' but the EPC light on the dash stays on after all the other extinguish. It goes out during cranking but comes on immediately you stop

Any thoughts?

Evening everyone
My third gear makes an alarming graunching noise on selection so I assume I've got a knackered synchro ring.

I've been quoted more than the cars worth to repair it so my question is how hard is it to do, do you need any specialist tools and if it is do-able where do you get replacement parts

Thanks in advance

VW Water Cooled / Scirocco Cylinder Head
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:05:25 PM »
I'm fairly certain my head gasket has gone as I'm filling the expansion tank every 3-4 days. That said I don't seem to be suffering from mayo in the oil.
Assuming the head is distorted what's my best plan of action, skim my exisiting head or just go for a new/recon head?
Can someone give my an idea of the cost of both options

Thanks in advance
