VW Water Cooled / Golf Mk1 Cabrio Big Brake Conversion

Hi, I'm new to this! I believe its possible to upgrade the standard brakes on my Mk1 Cabbie. Can anyone advise what I need to get to do this. I'd rather buy/obtain the parts separately as buying a kit is very expensive. [] Oh here's a pic of my car...
